Randburg District Cub Skills Day

Last Saturday cubs from all the packs in the Randburg District had a fun-filled afternoon at the Randpark Ridge Scout Hall.

They participated in various skills and games at 11 bases.

They played Kim’s games, where they had to use different senses and their memories and played games with giant pick up sticks (bamboo). They learnt about fire safety and toasted marshmallows over a burning peanut. They made emergency kits, learnt how to use a compass and practised different knots. They also had to decipher a message in a secret code and made toys and darts to shoot at targets.

The 10 year old cubs also had bases for the First Aid badge. After a talk by a paramedic, Rodger Hollins, they went to various bases where they learnt  how to treat burns, bleeding and choking. There were also bases on healthy eating, the dangers of smoking and drinking and bandages. ~ April 2015
